The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday claimed that Sandeep Ghosh, the arrested former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, along with other co-accused, was running a criminal gang for unfair gains. He said that this was revealed in the preliminary findings of the CBI probe into the alleged financial irregularities in the medical college.

He said the CBI had also presented these findings during a hearing before a special court here earlier this week. The CBI arrested Sandeep Ghosh, his security guard and two vendors for their alleged involvement in financial irregularities at a government hospital.

Protests across the country

Protests started across the country after the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The official said that these (both) vendors knew Sandeep Ghosh since he was working at Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. We have learned that because of his closeness to Sandeep Ghosh, he was given the contract of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Big reveal in CBI probe

Sandeep Ghosh was stationed at Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital between 2016 and 2018. The official said that the CBI investigation has also revealed how Sandeep Ghosh benefited an organization related to his security guard’s wife by awarding a contract for a cafe inside the hospital. He said that both these vendors were in Murshidabad and Sandeep Ghosh brought them to Kolkata after becoming the principal of RG Kar Hospital. They were given priority for supplying material to the hospital.
