Now RPF and GRP personnel have to take tickets even to go on duty. The Railway Tribunal, while dismissing the plea of RPF constables seeking compensation in case of accidents while on duty, said that railway police personnel also have to purchase tickets or take valid permission for the same while travelling. Bringing a blank identity card with you will not help.

The Railway Tribunal has delivered a major decision while hearing the application of a constable. The tribunal said that railway police personnel also have to buy tickets while travelling. The tribunal further said that having a blank identity card would not serve any purpose. In his application, the employee stated that he was on official duty when the accident occurred.

What did the application say?

Ahmedabad Bench of Railway Tribunal heard this case. In fact, according to the application filed in the Railway Tribunal, Bagul, a railway employee, had gone to the Surat Railway Police Station on November 13, 2019 for official duty. He was returning from Surat to Bharuch by Surat-Jamnagar intercity train. In the meantime he fell at Palej station due to which he sustained severe injuries on his left leg and a part of the leg had to be amputated. Rejecting the application, tribunal member Vinay Goyal said Bagul was not able to provide any valid travel permit documents to substantiate his official travel claims, hence his claim was rejected by the tribunal.

A compensation of eight lakhs was sought

GRP Constable Rajesh Bagul filed an application in the tribunal in which the Railways demanded Rs. 8 lakh compensation was sought, but the Railway Tribunal rejected their claim. The tribunal also questioned the Railways’ lax attitude towards the circular on issuing card passes to the GRP jawans. The Tribunal held that in the absence of a valid travel permit the petitioner could not be considered a bona fide tourist.
