Maharashtra Assembly Elections: Number of Voters Increase, Voters Increase by So Many Lakhs, New List Announced

On Wednesday, August 8, the Chief Electoral Officer of the state of Maharashtra released the revised electoral draft list in view of the upcoming elections. The list has increased by 7.3 lakh voters. The list has been released keeping in mind that the assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled to be held in October. The Chief Electoral Officer said that in the last Lok Sabha elections, there were a total of 9,29,43,890 voters in Maharashtra, of which 4,83,12,428 were male voters. While the number of women voters was 4,50,17,066. He said that 3,40,660 male voters have been added to the list. At the same time, the number of women also increased by 3,91,324.

Assembly elections are to be held in Maharashtra in the month of October. Voting will be held on a total of 288 seats. After the last assembly elections, Shiv Sena formed the government with the support of Congress Party and Nationalist Congress Party. However, his government fell due to being in minority. Currently NDA is the government in Maharashtra. BJP is entering the election field with Eknath Shinde. On the other hand, INDIA Alliance has also announced to contest the election with its allies.

In the 2019 assembly elections, the total voter turnout was 59.99 percent. Out of which Bharatiya Janata Party got 25.75 percent votes, Shiv Sena got 16.41 percent votes. While Congress got 15.87 percent and Nationalist Congress 16.71 percent votes. Bharatiya Janata Party’s vote percentage and seats were both higher. It had alliance with Shiv Sena. However, Shiv Sena broke the alliance after the election.

In the last assembly elections, Shiv Sena won 56 seats in Maharashtra out of a total of 288 seats. While its allies Congress won 44 seats and Nationalist Congress won 54 seats. Uddhav Thackeray became the Chief Minister of the coalition government. But, the government fell due to rebellion by Ajit Pawar from NCP and Eknath Shinde from Shiv Sena.
