Quit the job to become a full-time actor
After the release of his first film ‘Angreji, August’ in 1994, Rahul quit his job to become a full-time actor. This film also gave him a lot of recognition. Rahul was called a superstar of Indian arthouse cinema by the prestigious Time magazine for his work in films like ‘Angreji, August’ and ‘Mr and Mrs Iyer’. A chair was not found on the sets of the first film
Recently, Rahul gave an interview to Lalantop, in which he revealed that he was not given a chair on the sets of the first film. The actor said, “It’s a small thing, but I was in the lead role. I was not given a chair there. Due to which sometimes I used to sit on the road divider and sometimes on the ground. I thought it was fine, no problem. However, the rest were given chairs: the producer, his sister, his uncle. I just couldn’t get it.”
Has been an international rugby player
Apart from being an actor and director, Rahul is also a great rugby player. Rahul has achieved many achievements in rugby. Rahul participated in the Asian Union Rugby Championship for eight years. The actor played his last international rugby match against Pakistan and his first against Singapore in 1998. Even when Rahul was playing rugby, he was working in films. However, playing for the country was more important to him than films.
On 23 November 2018, the website India West quoted Rahul in an interview as saying, “When I was playing for India, I used to look at my rugby calendar and watch tournaments and watch movies that coincided with the dates of the games. No because playing for India was more important to me than acting in films. However, he bid farewell to the game and retired in 2008. After retirement, he also emphasized on the promotion of rugby. According to Times of India, Rahul gave several reasons behind his retirement. He said, “You need at least two months to prepare for international rugby. Which I don’t have. Apart from that, money and age are also reasons to quit. Rugby doesn’t pay much and I’m 40 now. That’s why I think That I should give up rugby.” Apart from films and sports, Rahul has also been closely associated with social service.
