TMC’s Mala Roy wins from Kolkata South
Trinamool Congress has given a surprising performance in the West Bengal Lok Sabha elections. Defying all exit poll data and predictions of many political pundits, the party has bagged 29 out of 42 seats. TMC has also won the Kolkata South seat here. Mala Roy has been elected MP from this seat for the second time in a row. Mala Roy defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate by a wide margin.
Mala Roy performed brilliantly in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Kolkata South seat, defeating the BJP candidate Debashree Chaudhary by a margin of 1 lakh 87 thousand 231 votes. Debashree Chaudhary could get only 4 lakh 28 thousand 43 votes, while Mala Roy got 6 lakh 15 thousand 274 votes. In this seat, CPI(M) candidate Saira Shah Halim got 1 lakh 68 thousand 531 votes and stood third.
Mala Roy made a similar performance from this seat in the last general election as well. In 2019, he won the seat with 1 lakh 55 thousand 102 votes. At that time he defeated BJP’s Chandra Kumar Bose. The CPI(M) candidate was third in 2019 as well. Last time the party fielded Nandini Mukherjee. Mala got 5 lakh 73 thousand 119 votes in 2019. 4 lakh 17 thousand 927 people voted for Chandra Kumar Bose, who was ranked second.
Criminal case against Mala Roy
Mala Roy, 66, was born on 10 November 1957 in Kolkata. His father’s name is Kanti Sarkar and mother’s name is Sandhya Rani. Mala Roy married Nirbed Roy on 5 December 1986. Mala has two children. A daughter and a son. Apart from being a politician, Mala also calls herself a social worker. He did BA from Calcutta University. Degree taken.
A criminal case has been registered against Mala Roy. He has stated in his election affidavit that he has movable and immovable assets worth 1 crore 53 lakh 97 thousand 92 rupees. Mala Roy also has a loan. He has stated that he has a liability of 7 lakh 95 thousand 517 rupees. Mala Roy has a car worth 22 lakh rupees. Apart from this, he also has 100 grams of gold, which is said to be worth around 7 lakh rupees.
