Union Minister Rao Indrajit Singh

Union Minister Rao Indrajit Singh’s displeasure is in the news amid assembly elections in Haryana. Senior party leaders held a meeting with Indrajit ahead of the BJP’s Central Election Committee meeting in Delhi on Thursday. It is being said that this meeting was held regarding Indrajit’s morale. Interestingly, Rao Indrajit is neither the face of the government nor the leader of the organization, yet the BJP does not want to accept his displeasure.

Indrajit is said to be angry for 3 reasons. First reason is to get ticket for daughter Aarti, second reason is to establish dominance in Ahirwal belt and third reason is to maintain his influence through elections.

How strong a leader is Rao Indrajit Singh?

Rao Indrajit Singh inherited politics. His father Rao Birendra Singh has been the Chief Minister of Haryana. Indrajit became an MLA for the first time in 1977. In 1982, he was made a minister in the Haryana government. After this Rao began to gain a strong hold in the politics of the Ahirwal belt.

In 1998, Rao was elected as an MP for the first time. The seat was from Mahendragarh. Since then, Rao has been an MP 6 times. In 2014, he was included in the Modi cabinet. He also became a minister in 2019 and 2024. Currently, Rao Indrajit Madi is the Minister with Independent Charge in the Cabinet.

20 assembly seats in Ahirwal belt

Parts of southern Haryana bordering Delhi and Rajasthan are called the Ahirwal Belt. The main reason for calling the Ahirwal belt is the predominance of the Ahirs in these areas. This belt mainly includes Gurugram, Rewari, Faridabad, Palwal and Nooh districts.

Although the Ahirs constitute about 9 percent in Haryana as a whole, the number rises to more than 30 percent in the Ahirwal belt.

In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP won 12 out of 20 seats in the Ahirwal belt. Congress lost 5 seats here. BJP had a clean sweep in Gurugram and Palwal. The party’s performance was good in Rewari too. All these areas are considered as strongholds of Rao Indrajit Singh.

Before the 2014 elections, Rao Indrajit Singh had opened a front against the Hooda government based on the Ahirwal belt. Indrajit said that Hooda’s government has become the government of Rohtak, Sonepat and Jhajjar and not of Haryana.

Why did Indrajit’s displeasure increase the tension?

Haryana has 90 assembly seats, out of which the magic number to form the government is 46. In 2019, BJP won 40 seats. At that time the party was able to form the government in alliance with JJP. Currently there is no alliance between the two.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, India Alliance has got a lead in 46 assembly seats and BJP has got a lead in 44 seats. It is being said that like the Lok Sabha, the contest in the Legislative Assembly is close.

In such a situation, if Indrajit gets upset, it will affect the results of at least 10 seats. There are 9 assembly seats under Gurugram seat of which Indrajit is the MP. In 6 of these, Indrajit took the lead.

Ticket will be announced in BJP

Polling for 90 assembly seats in Haryana is scheduled to take place on October 1. BJP is in alliance with Gopal Kanda’s party here. A meeting of BJP’s Central Election Committee was called on Thursday to finalize the ticket.

It is being said that more than 50 seats have been agreed upon in this meeting. Its list may be published soon.
