MUMBAI: BMC official throws bundle of notes in toilet, starts searching drain to find out, what’s the matter?

A very different and shocking incident has come to light from Mumbai, the financial capital of the country. A Mumbai Municipal Corporation officer has come under the radar of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for taking bribes. The ACB officer made a plan to catch the municipal corporation officer red-handed but this BMC officer was clever. He found in charge the fact that a trap had been laid to ensnare him. As soon as he got wind of it, he threw the bribe money into the toilet. ACB officials started searching the drains after receiving information that money was thrown in the toilet. They searched every drain in the area and also seized currency notes.

A restaurant owner in Borivali wanted a piped gas connection. For this, the hotel owner hired a company. But permission from the municipality was required to establish this connection. NOC from the municipality was required. In such a situation a person applied online for this connection. But after not getting any response even after applying online, the man contacted senior fire brigade officer of the municipality, Prahlad Shitole. Shitole’s office is on Link Road in Dahisar area. His house is on the fourth floor of the same building where Shitole’s office is.

ACB set a trap

According to the victim, Shitole inspected the incident site. 1.5 lakh bribe was demanded. When the victim refused to pay the bribe, the bribe amount was reduced to 60 thousand rupees. The victim contacted the ACB directly. ACB started laying a trap to catch the accused red-handed. ACB gave bundles of notes to the victim. which was identified. The victim went to the officer with these notes. He was given the notes but after seeing the notes the officer became suspicious. He immediately threw the notes into his office toilet and pressed the flush button.

After this ACB officials arrested Shitole. It was thoroughly investigated. At that time he admitted that he threw 60 thousand rupees in the toilet. After this, the police opened not one or two but 20 drains to remove these notes. The ACB team started searching for the note. Meanwhile, ACB officials found Rs.57 thousand in the drain. The officials have not yet received the three thousand rupees. Officials have seized these notes as evidence. ACB team has also recovered phenolphthalein powder from Shitole’s shirt, bathroom lock and main door. This powder was also applied on currency notes.
