Bad condition due to rains in Gujarat

It is raining in Gujarat as if there is a deluge in the entire state. Floods and rains have wreaked havoc in most of the districts of Gujarat. Roads have become an ocean and most of the state’s dams have overflowed. Today i.e. 27th August, IMD has declared red alert for 28 districts and orange alert for 6 districts of Gujarat. According to the Meteorological Department, if torrential rains continue in Gujarat in the coming days, devastation may occur in most of the districts of the state. Because everything from rivers to dams is full.

Due to torrential rains in Gujarat, a total of 76 reservoirs are completely filled and 46 reservoirs are more than 70 percent full, due to which the administration has declared a high alert in the areas around these dams. Gujarat’s Jivadori-like Sardar Sarovar Dam is over 87 percent full of water. At the same time, more than 78 percent of the total storage capacity of the state’s 207 reservoirs are full. Today, the water level in the state is recorded at 78 percent compared to 76 percent last year.

In addition to 76 reservoirs being 100 per cent full due to heavy rains in the state, 23 dams in the state have been alerted at 50 to 70 per cent water level, while 30 dams are between 25 to 50 per cent full. percent and 31 dams are underfilled by more than 25 percent. Currently 2,90,547 MCFT i.e. 87 percent of the total water storage capacity has been recorded in the Sardar Sarovar scheme.

Apart from this, 4,07,440 MCFT i.e. 72.73 percent of the total storage capacity has been recorded in other 206 reservoirs of the state. In this way, according to the report of the Water Resources Department, more than 78 percent of water has been stored in a total of 207 reservoirs. In such a situation, if the rains continue, the situation in the state may worsen.
