A big decision of the Commissioner Court has come on Jail Road Mosque in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Commissioner HH Rana has given his decision. He said that the illegal construction of Jail Road Masjid will have to be demolished. The old status quo has to be restored. The Muslim party can appeal within 30 days. However, the Muslim side said that they themselves are demolishing the illegal part so as to maintain mutual brotherhood in the area. There is no pressure on them.

After the mosque controversy in Shimla’s Sanjauli, there is now tension over the illegal construction of a mosque in Mandi’s Jail Road. A protest was held by Hindu organizations in Mandi on Friday over the issue of the illegal mosque. Thousands of people participated in it. They demanded the demolition of the illegal mosque. The protesters also demanded the eviction of the Muslim community from Chhoti Kashi. He said – a mosque has been built on the land of Himachal government. It has to be broken. The protest rally started from Seri Manch and proceeded through the entire bazaar towards Sakodi Chowk.

Seeing this rally of Hindu organizations, the police also used water cannons to disperse the protesters. However, the people of the Muslim community themselves have started demolishing the illegal construction of the mosque. However, people are protesting by taking to the streets.

Section 163 has been invoked

In view of the situation, the Mandi administration has invoked Section 163 (earlier 144) of the BNSS. Besides this, a large number of police forces have been deployed. Barricading has been done on all sides of Mandi city. A large number of police forces have been deployed near the mosque.

What did the mosque committee say?

Iqbal Ali, a member of the mosque committee, said – an application was given to the municipal corporation to pass the map in October 2023 for the construction of the mosque. He was not aware that NOC has to be obtained from Public Works Department. Also he was not informed about this. After the mortar was laid, the PWD department raised objections to the construction work and notices started pouring in. He said that Public Works Department, Revenue, Kanungo, Patwari, Tehsildar reached the spot on Friday. The illegal portion which has been found after the investigation is now being demolished by them without any pressure. This is to maintain mutual brotherhood, social harmony and law enforcement.

A similar demonstration took place in Sanjauli, Shimla.

Earlier, Hindu organizations and local people had protested the illegal construction of a mosque complex in Shimla’s Sanjauli area. Meanwhile, the demonstrators also clashed with the police. The demonstrators marched towards the mosque. Meanwhile, the police tried to stop them by putting up a barricade, which people broke and started moving forward. Police used water cannon and lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
