Kolkata’s new Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma
IPS officer Manoj Kumar Verma has been made the new Police Commissioner of Kolkata. The West Bengal government on Tuesday appointed Verma as the new police commissioner of Kolkata. State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has removed Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal due to the strike of doctors. He has been replaced by Manoj Verma, who will now take charge.
Manoj Kumar Verma is a 1998 batch IPS officer who played an important role in suppressing Maoism. Verma took over as Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) this year, replacing Javed Shamim in January. Manoj Verma is considered a confidant of Mamata Sarkar. Verma has led several successful operations against Naxalites. Manoj is counted among CM Mamata Banerjee’s sharp and favorite officers.
Born in 1976 in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan
Manoj Verma was born in 1976 in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan. After being selected in the public service, he held many important positions. He held important posts like DC (Special), DCI (Traffic). In 2017, he was posted as SI of Siliguri Police Commissionerate and Darjeeling. He campaigned against the Maoists in Midnapore, West Bengal and was instrumental in keeping them under control.

Manoj Verma replaced Vineet Goyal
In fact, there has been an uproar following the rape and murder case of a woman doctor at the government-run RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. Enraged by this incident, people were on strike for the last one month. The doctors were demanding the removal of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. Recently, the CM of the state had a meeting with the doctors, after which he accepted the demands of the doctors and decided to remove Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. On Monday night, the Chief Minister announced the removal of Goyal. Now the government has made him ADG and IG of Kolkata STF.
