The textile business in Bhagalpur came to a standstill

Bangladesh is burning due to political insurgency. Violent activities are happening everywhere. Due to which the business there has stopped. Its effect is also being seen in India. Especially in Bhagalpur, Bihar, textile traders cannot get delivery of finished goods. Because of this, goods worth approximately 5 crores of traders have been stuck in Bangladesh. In such a situation, the textile traders here are in great worry. Actually the big silk business of Bangladesh is in Bhagalpur. Hundreds of people from Bhagalpur and surrounding areas have got employment from this business.

According to local traders, the violence in Bangladesh has slowed down the silk business. Currently, goods worth more than 5 crore rupees are stuck in Bangladesh, which are not being delivered. The situation has reached such a stage that we cannot even contact the cloth merchants there. In such a situation there is a dilemma. Here, wholesalers fear losing customers due to non-delivery of goods. According to local traders, even in Nath Nagar, traders’ warehouses are full of goods, but people cannot send them to Bangladesh to make clothes.

Goods are neither coming nor going from Bangladesh

Due to which a lot of money has been trapped in the raw material as well. Seeing the situation, TV9 Bharatvarsh team reached Nath Nagar in Bhagalpur and shared the plight of silk traders and weavers. Obed Ullah, a silk merchant, said that two to three crore worth of goods go to Bangladesh every year from Nath Nagar, including items like Tasar Katia, Tasar-Tasar, Tasar Monga, Tasar Khichcha. Traders’ warehouses here are currently full of these items, but due to work stoppage in Bangladesh, these goods are not being shipped and finished goods are also unable to arrive here from Bangladesh.

Due to which the money of the traders has been trapped but the weavers engaged in this work are also facing a crisis of daily bread. According to local traders, hand work embroidery is mainly done on clothes in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has direct-indirect commercial links with the silk city of Bhagalpur. This has affected the entire business. He said that around 5 crore rupees worth of goods were stranded in Bangladesh, more than that in warehouses here. According to the weavers, the cloth produced after their hard work last month is lying in the warehouse. More orders are not coming in, thus affecting their livelihood.
