Films that explain the true meaning of freedom
It has been 77 years since India got independence. Many freedom fighters sacrificed their lives to free India from British slavery. Then the country became independent on 15 August 1947. However, even after 77 years, the question remains, are we really free? That now we have become a slave to our thinking or the fear in our mind.
Many such films have been made in Bollywood, which talk about this freedom and explain to us the true meaning of freedom. Those films teach us that we have become free from the British, but somewhere we are not completely free in the society. Let’s talk about some such movies today.
1. Rang De Basanti

When one has little fear in one’s mind, there comes a time when fear also ends and one becomes free from fear. ‘Rang De Basanti’ directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra in 2006 talks about the freedom to overcome one’s fears. The next film is ‘Manthan’, in which stars like Naseeruddin Shah, Amrish Puri were seen. The director of this film was Shyam Benegal. Released in 1976, the film talks about gaining freedom from the mindset that caused the difference between the rich and the poor. The film tells us that we are free from the British, but still buried under such anti-social thinking.

Many times it happens that our decisions are taken by someone else, we are not even free to take our decisions. Someone else is making our decisions with little consideration, under some burden. We have to mix yes with other’s yes and no with no. This film is about that freedom. This film teaches us that the thoughts we form about someone else, even without knowing or meeting them.

4. Existence
Tabu was seen in the lead role in this film. One of his lines in this picture is, Is the mind of a man different from the mind of a woman? Don’t both men and women have human minds? These verses of his suggest that a person should get his rights not on the basis of male and female, but as a human being.

5. Mira
In the year 1979, a film named ‘Meera’ was released, which was directed by Gulzar. Hema Malini played the role of Meera in this film. The film talks about the freedom to love, the freedom to make one’s own decisions. Meera loves someone else, but to strengthen the relationship between the two Rajputs, her marriage is arranged elsewhere. This film tells us that mentally we are not yet free.
