The Jharkhand government has written a letter to the Election Commission. The government asked the Election Commission, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP leaders Himanta Biswa Sarma and Shivraj Singh Chauhan to avoid provoking communal tension in the state for narrow political gains by misusing the official machinery.
In a message sent to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, the Jharkhand government has also requested Shah to advise him to ensure that he does not misuse the official position of the Chief Minister of Assam and the official machinery of the state in any way for political gain. Pay the cost to the government treasury. Also, avoid direct interference in the internal affairs of the state in flagrant violation of constitutional norms.
There are also allegations of intimidation of administrative and police officers
Principal Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, Vandana Dadel, in a recent letter to the Election Commission, has accused the BJP of trying to intimidate administrative and police officials into not taking proper and legal action. The letter requested the Election Commission to ensure impartiality and give opportunity to both parties and conduct an inquiry before taking any action against government officials and police officers posted in Jharkhand in connection with the upcoming assembly elections.
Regarding the removal of officers from election duty during the Lok Sabha elections, the Chief Secretary said that this systematic and planned attack on the bureaucracy and police of the state of Jharkhand has created a feeling of fear and despair in the ranks. In a way, this is a dangerous attempt to mis-employ officials.
Demand action against leaders
It is alleged that attempts are being made not only to intimidate the top bureaucrats of the state but also to paralyze the entire administration. The letter said that strict action has been demanded against leaders who slander state government officials and interfere in internal affairs.
The Jharkhand government has questioned whether what is currently being done in the state is not a violation of the level playing field that the Election Commission states as part of its free and fair elections. The state government termed it as a serious violation of the spirit of the model code of conduct. However, as elections are yet to be announced in the state, the code of conduct is not yet in force.
‘Jharkhand government is fulfilling its responsibility’
The letter said that Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Himanta Biswa Sarma were made state election in-charges of the BJP on June 17. The entire system is on alert to enhance Z-Plus security during their frequent visits to the state. Government of Jharkhand is fulfilling its duties and responsibilities to provide all necessary facilities.
Assembly elections are to be held in Jharkhand in October-November. In view of the elections, the politics of the state has heated up.
