Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Ruchi Veera has won the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. He defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)’s Mohammad is third on this seat. Irfan stayed. Moradabad seat saw a triangular contest. Here BSP scored decent marks, which led to tough competition.

Ruchi Veera has been an MLA for one term. She has represented Bijnor assembly constituency and won the by-election. On 28 December 2015, Veera was suspended by the SP for anti-party activities. In Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Samajwadi Party had earlier given ticket to ST Hassan from Moradabad and Ruchi Veera wanted to contest from Bijnor seat. However, his pulse could not be digested there.

When Ruchi Veera did not get a ticket from Bijnor seat, he again turned to Moradabad. ST Hassan had filed his candidature from here, but SP chief Akhilesh Yadav changed his candidate and gave ticket to Ruchi Veera. It was said that Akhilesh Yadav has taken such a decision due to Azam Khan’s pressure. Ruchi Veera is said to be very close to Azam Khan. It was Khan who got Ruchi Veera back into SP in the year 2023. Ruchi Veera left the SP and joined the BSP, but was also expelled from the BSP.

11 candidates were in fray for Moradabad seat

According to the Election Commission, 11 candidates were trying their luck in the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 elections. 12 lakh 83 thousand 185 voters have exercised their franchise on this seat. Ruchi Veera managed to secure 49.67 percent votes. While BJP’s Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar got 41.43 percent votes while BSP candidate got 7.19 percent votes. Four independent candidates were contesting here. Most of the candidates’ deposits were forfeited.

Who got how many votes in Moradabad Lok Sabha seat?

According to the Election Commission, Ruchi Veera managed to get 6 lakh 37 thousand 363 votes in Moradabad seat. While BJP candidate Kunwar Sarvesh Singh got 5 lakh 31 thousand 601 votes. Both the candidates saw a fierce contest, but in the end Ruchi got a good lead and won the seat. Apart from this, BSP candidate Mohd. Irfan got 92 thousand 313 votes. Saapi’s Ruchi Veera defeated Kunwar Sarvesh Singh by a margin of 1 lakh 5 thousand 762 votes.
