Who is Chandan Chauhan?

RLD’s Chandan Chauhan is the grandson of former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Narayan Singh. His father Sanjay Chauhan has also been an MP from Bijnor seat. Chandan Chauhan was a dedicated SP worker ahead of the 2022 assembly elections. SP and RLD had an alliance in those elections. When Chandan Chauhan was in SP at that time, he contested and won elections from Mirapur seat on RLD symbol and became an MLA. In that election, he defeated BJP’s Prashant Chaudhary by a margin of 27 thousand 380 votes.

During this time, he became close to RLD supremo Jayant Chaudhary and Jayant Chaudhary made him the president of his party’s Yuva Morcha. Jat and Gurjar communities are in majority in Kairana, Bijnor and Muzaffarnagar. In such a situation, Jayant Chaudhary tried to play the Jat-Gurjar card by giving ticket to Chandan Chauhan.

Why did Chandan Chauhan join SP?

During the time of Chaudhary Ajit Singh, Chandan Chauhan’s father was also in the RLD and was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha from Bijnor on an RLD ticket. Apart from this, he also became an MLA from here. He died of a heart attack in October 2014. Chandan Chauhan had sought a ticket from RLD in the Lok Sabha elections at that time, but when Jayant Chaudhary did not give him a ticket, he joined the SP.
