Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won a big victory in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad Lok Sabha seat. Party candidate Atul Garg defeated Dolly Sharma. This seat went to Congress under the seat sharing formula of India Alliance. On this, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) gave ticket to Nand Kishore Pundir, after which the fight became interesting. BJP’s Atul Garg was constantly being told that his victory was certain and the results were also in his favour.

According to the Election Commission, 14 lakh 70 thousand 430 voters exercised their franchise in Ghaziabad seat. 14 lakh 68 thousand 608 votes were cast by EVM and 1822 votes were cast by postal ballot. BJP got 58.09 percent, Congress 35.17 percent and BSP 5.41 percent votes. Atul Garg of BJP got 8 lakh 54 thousand 170 votes and Dolly Sharma of Congress got 5 lakh 17 thousand 205 votes, while Nand Kishore Pundir of BSP got 79 thousand 525 votes. BJP defeated Dolly Sharma by 3 lakh 36 thousand 965 votes.

Who is Atul Garg?

Atul Garg, who won from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad Lok Sabha seat, became MLA from Ghaziabad Sadar assembly seat in 2022. He was the Health Minister in the previous government of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Atul Garg, born on 26 August 1957, is the son of Dinesh Chandra Garg, the first mayor of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation. BJP canceled the ticket of Ghaziabad MP VK Singh and made him its candidate.

In the 2017 UP assembly elections, Atul Garg faced BSP’s Suresh Bansal. He won this election by a margin of 70 thousand votes. Similarly, in the 2022 assembly elections, he faced SP’s Vishal Sharma. In which he won by around 1 lakh votes. In his affidavit he stated his source of income as salary and interest. In which he mentioned that his total wealth has increased by Rs 1.5 crore in just two years. Similarly, his wife also earned 2 crore 21 lakh rupees during the same period.

Who is Dolly Sharma?

Congress candidate Dolly Sharma, who lost from the Galiabad Lok Sabha seat, is the party’s national spokesperson. She was also the candidate of the Congress party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, at that time, the Congress party was contesting the elections alone and Dolly Sharma came third. Dolly Sharma, who has studied MBA, is the daughter of former city president Narendra Bhardwaj. She entered politics in the year 2017 and contested the mayoral election in Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation. However, BJP’s Asha Sharma defeated him at that time.

Despite the election defeat, Dolly Sharma did not lose heart and continued to work for the party organization. The party also gave him a second chance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, she finished third in that election as well. The Congress party made him in charge during the assembly elections held in several states and fielded him in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after passing various criteria. This time too he was defeated. A resident of Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Dolly Sharma received her education in Ghaziabad and Noida. He did his MBA from IMS College, Noida. However, her husband Deepak Sharma is a businessman.
