A record of Prabhas’ ‘Kalki 2898 AD’
Directed by Nag Ashwin, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has hit the theaters on June 27. A large number of fans have flocked to the theaters to watch the film. We are not saying this, but it is evident from the box numbers. The film was a huge grosser on its first day of release and collected Rs 191.5 crore worldwide. With this, the picture became the third biggest opener in the history of Indian cinema worldwide after ‘RRR’ and ‘Baahubali 2’. That means it is the third highest grossing film on the first day.
With this massive collection, Kalki’s ‘2898 AD’ broke the records of many films, but could not beat the three films of Shahrukh Khan (Pathan, Jaawan and Danki) released last year. Now a question may be coming in your mind that ‘Kalki’ has collected much more than these three films on the first day. Then how come the record was not broken? So let us explain to you.
In Hindi, ‘Kalki’ was left behind
Out of the Rs 191.5 crore that ‘Kalki’ earned on the first day, only Rs 22.50 crore is included in the Hindi language. That is, on the first day of ‘Kalki’ in Hindi only Rs. 22.5 crores, the rest of the collections were from Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and overseas. And this is where the game ended. In fact, ‘Kalki’ may have grossed more than ‘Pathan’, ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Danki’ worldwide, but it has lagged behind in Hindi. From Hindi, ‘Pathan’ earned 57 crores, ‘Jawaan’ 75 crores and ‘Dinky’ 28 crores on the first day.

These mistakes cost producers dearly
Promotion- There was a lot of buzz about the film, but on social media. The makers and starcast did not promote the film much to the Hindi audience, as Bollywood stars do.
Not a box office oriented star – the makers of ‘Kalki’ cast Deepika Padukone as the female lead and Amitabh Bachchan to bring the Hindi audience to the theatres. There is no doubt that Amitabh is a veteran actor of Bollywood, people love his movies, but his movies are not giving record breaking numbers.
