Watching TV will be expensive after elections, inflation may rise here

There’s bad news for TV viewers: Watching TV may soon become expensive. In fact, many large OTT platforms are going to increase their rates, which will have a direct impact on the pocket of the common citizen. According to the information, Disney Star, Viacom18, Zee Entertainment and Sony Picture Network India broadcasters may increase their channel list. The common man may suffer this inflation shock after the election results.

Watching television will be very expensive

According to the report, television subscription rates may increase by 5 to 8 percent. That means, if you currently spend Rs 500 on a monthly TV subscription to watch TV, then your TV subscription fee may increase by around Rs 40. At the same time, if you spend Rs 1,000 every month on a TV subscription, it can increase by about Rs 80.

According to the ET report, telecom regulator TRAI had asked broadcasters not to disconnect signals from distribution platform operators (DPOs) who have not signed the agreement under the new tariff till the end of the general elections.

There will be a 10 percent increase.

In January, the leading broadcaster increased its basic bouquet rates by about 10 percent. According to the report, Viacom18 is claimed to see a maximum increase of around 25 percent. This means that there will be an increase of approximately Rs 125 on the monthly subscription of approximately Rs 500.

When will prices increase?

According to the report, the market share of cricket and entertainment channels is around 25 per cent. At the same time, the new subscription fee increase price would be implemented in February. But it was suspended due to the elections. In such a situation, it is expected that after the formation of the new government in June, broadcasters will be able to pressure DPOs to increase rates. Airtel Digital TV and some DPOs like it have already increased prices marginally.
