Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar won the Lok Sabha elections from Barasat.

Lok Sabha election results are out. In West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress performed strongly and won 29 of the state’s 42 Lok Sabha seats. The Barasat Lok Sabha seat here has also gone to TMC’s account. TMC leader and Barasat candidate Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar defeated Bharatiya Janata Party’s Swapan Majumdar by 1 lakh 14 thousand 189 votes. Kakoli Ghosh got 6 lakh 92 thousand 10 votes here. BJP’s Swapan Majumdar stood second and got 5 lakh 77 thousand 821 votes. Tapas Banerjee of All India Secular Front could get only 1 lakh 21 thousand 440 votes in this seat.

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar is a famous doctor. Born on 23 November 1959, Kakoli Dastidar is very special to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She is the president of Banga Jani Vahini, the women’s wing of the All India Trinamool Congress. The Trinamool Congress fielded him for the first time in the 2009 parliamentary elections from the Barasat Lok Sabha seat for the 15th Lok Sabha. After winning that election, the TMC also fielded him in the 16th Lok Sabha elections held in 2014 and the 17th Lok Sabha elections held in 2019.

She is winning all these three elections with huge majority. Kakoli’s uncle, the late Arun Moitra, was a freedom fighter and president of the Congress Party in post-independence Bengal. Similarly, his maternal uncle late Gurudas Dasgupta has also been elected as an MP from the Communist Party. Her husband Dr. Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar is also a famous doctor and specializes in infertility and IVF. Dr. Dastidar has also been a Minister in West Bengal Government. Both his sons are also doctors. The elder son is a gynecologist and the second is a psychiatrist.

Kakoli Ghosh was educated in Kolkata. After schooling, he did his MBBS from RG Medical College, Kolkata and then an MD degree in Obstetrics and Ultrasound from King’s College London. After this Kakoli practiced medicine for a long time. Meanwhile, Kakoli worked to provide essential facilities to women and children who were victims of human trafficking by opening a school and a clinic in South 24 Parganas. He has also received a citation for this.

Defeat in assembly elections

Kakoli devoted his life to politics. Currently, he is a member of the Home Affairs Committee in the Lok Sabha, according to Election Commission records, Kakoli Dastidar won the 2009 Lok Sabha election from Barasat Lok Sabha seat by 1 lakh 22 thousand 901 votes. Before this election, she had also contested on TMC ticket from Diamond Harbour, Howrah Lok Sabha seat and Ballygunj assembly seat. However, he had to face defeat in these three elections. Dr. Kakoli came into controversy in 2012 by making insensitive allegations against a Park Street gang rape victim. He refused to call the incident a rape and said it could not be compared to the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi.
