The ‘Jaitkham’ built here is taller than the Qutub Minar, why is the Satnam a symbol of the community’s faith?

After the commotion at Baloda Bazaar in Chhattisgarh on Sunday, everyone wants to know about the Satnami community and Jaitkham. The Satnami community are followers of Guru Ghasidas and their most sacred symbol is the Jaitkham on which a white flag is hoisted. Whenever there is talk of Jetkham, the tallest Jetkham located in Girodpuri of the state is definitely mentioned. The Jaitkham, completed in 2014, is taller than the Qutub Minar.

In fact, followers of the Satnami community, aggrieved by the cutting of Jaitkham, staged an aggressive and violent demonstration in Baloda market in Chhattisgarh. People of Satnami Samaj surrounded the entire collector office and set it on fire. The people of Satnami community are demanding a CBI probe into the jetkham cutting case, while the Dipsi CM has already ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter. People who were angry about this had protested.

Both the names Satnami Samaj and Jaitkham are very common to the state of Chhattisgarh as almost all the villages here are inhabited by Satnami people. Jetkham is built here in every village and its devotees also worship this holy pillar every day. The Satnami community is a follower of Guru Ghasidas. People of this society always follow the truth and chant Satnaam.

What is jetkham?

Jetkham is the most important symbol of faith for the people of the society. This is a flag of faith for Satnamis which holds great importance for them. Wherever the Satnamis live, they make a jaitkham overlooking a particular spot and hoist a white flag over it. It is a symbol of victory for the Satnamis and hence its importance increases. Talking about Jaitkham, let us tell you that there is a Jaitkham in Chhattisgarh which is higher than Qutub Minar and very beautiful to see.

Most Jetkham in Giraudpuri

About 145 kilometers from Raipur is the birthplace of Baba Guru Ghasidas, named Giraudpuri. Where a beautiful and grand Jetkham has been constructed keeping in mind the faith towards Jetdham among the Satnamis. Talking about height, it is higher than Qutub Minar. It was completed in 2014. The height of this Jetkham is 77 meters while the height of Qutub Minar is 72.5 meters. Its construction work was started in 2007-08 and completed in 2014.
