T20 World Cup 2024: Clash with umpires, big action by ICC

The 17th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was played on Saturday, June 8. Australia defeated defending champions England by 36 runs to register their second consecutive win. In this prestigious match against England, Australia’s wicketkeeper batsman Matthew Wade expressed his displeasure over the umpire’s decision. Matthew Head had to pay a heavy price for getting into a tussle with the umpire. During this, Matthew Head violated the rules. Therefore, the ICC has taken action against Head. The ICC has given this information through social media.

The 18th over of Australia’s innings was bowled by England’s Adil Rashid. Matthew refused to play on one ball of Rashid’s over. Before Rashid bowled, Matthew showed him his hand and said that I am unfit to play. But Rashid played the ball instead of leaving it. After this, the umpire expected that the ball would be declared dead to Matthew. But that did not happen. So Matthew argued with the umpire and expressed his displeasure.

Matthew Wade violated ICC rule 2.8 for players and players associations. These rules provide for expressing disagreement with umpires’ decisions during international matches. Matthew is to be given a demerit point for breaking the rule. This was the first time in 2 years for Matthew. Matthew admits he was wrong.
