Prices of potatoes, onions and tomatoes have increased by 81 percent in the last year.

A few days ago the news came that the price of veg thali has increased in the country. The latest news is that in the last 15 days wholesale onion prices have seen an increase of up to 50 percent. If we look at the data on the Ministry of Consumer Affairs website, in the last year there has been an increase of up to 81 percent in the prices of potatoes, onions and tomatoes. There has been a huge increase in the average prices of these three vegetables across the country. Potato price on fire

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs website, the average price of potatoes on April 30, 2023 was Rs 18.88 per kg. Which reached Rs 30.57 per kg on June 10, 2024. This means that the price of potatoes has seen an increase of Rs 11.69 per kg. This means that potato prices have increased by 62 percent in the last year. If the data is to be believed, the average price of potatoes has seen an increase of about one rupee per kilogram in the month of June.

Onion prices also rise

Onion prices have made common people cry since last year. According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs website, the average price of onion on April 30, 2023 was Rs 20.41 per kg. Which increased to Rs 33.98 on June 10. This means that in the last one year the price of onion has increased by 66 percent i.e. Rs 13.57 per kg. If we talk about June alone, the average price of onion has seen an increase of Rs 1.86 per kg. While in the country’s capital, Delhi, an increase of Rs 12 has been observed in the price of onion.

Greater increase in the price of tomato

The price of tomatoes has seen the highest increase compared to potatoes and onions. According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs website, the retail price of tomato on April 30, 2023 was Rs 20.55 per kg. On June 10, 2024, the price of this tomato dropped to Rs 37.11. This means that the price of tomato has seen an increase of 81 per cent i.e. Rs 16.56 per kg in the last one year.

How much price on online platforms?

Talking about online platforms, the price of one kg of hybrid tomato in Delhi at Big Basket is Rs 21. While the price of potatoes is 41 rupees and that of tomatoes is 38 rupees per kg. Potato is sold at Rs 44 per kg at Zepto. While the price of onion has reached Rs 43 per kg. The price of tomato stands at Rs 28 per kg. The price of onion has reached Rs 47 per kg on Blinkit. While the price of tomato is Rs 26 per kg. While potatoes are available at Rs 41 per kg.

Veg thali gets expensive

According to Crisil MI&A Research, the average cost of a homemade vegetarian thali rose 9 per cent (yoy) in May to Rs 27.8. Last May, the price of the same thali was Rs 25.5. Compared to April 2024, the price increased by 1 percent. In April it cost 27.4 rupees per plate. The main reason for the increase in the price of veg thali has been the price of potatoes, onions and tomatoes.
