Brij Bhushan Singh on Congress: Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Saturday made a big claim about the Congress. He said the Congress used wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia as ‘pawns’ in a conspiracy to control the WFI and attack the BJP.
A day after Olympian wrestlers Phogat and Punia joined the Congress, senior BJP leader Brij Bhushan Singh has launched this major attack. He said he had a grudge against Congress’s Dipendra Hooda in the 2012 Wrestling Federation of India elections. Singh said that this team of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi keeps doing this kind of work.
‘Congress family used him as a pawn’
When asked about Phogat and Punia, two prominent faces of the sexual harassment protest, Brij Bhushan Singh said, ‘They were faces… they were pawns. Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Hooda, Congress and the Congress family used him as a pawn. “It was all a conspiracy to take control of WFI and attack the ideology of BJP,” he told PTI. Rahul’s team, Congress keeps doing this kind of work.
Brij Bhushan Singh took control of WFI for the first time in 2012 after a fierce contest with Dipendra Hooda. He controlled the organization until protests erupted against him last year for sexually harassing and intimidating female wrestlers. Sakshi Malik led the movement along with Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia.

At the same time, following this, Brij Bhushan Singh, a six-time member of the Lok Sabha from Kaisarganj in Uttar Pradesh, had to step down as WFI chief. Currently, he is also facing criminal charges in court. After his ouster, his close ally Sanjay Singh was chosen as the head of the WFI, but the organization is yet to receive recognition from the Sports Ministry.

Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party on Friday. He said that he will continue his fight against Brijbhushan Singh. Phogat made a statement that no woman should have to go through what she had to go through. Congress has fielded Phogat from Julana seat of Haryana Assembly.
Sakshi Malik refused to join politics
When asked about this statement, Brij Bhushan Singh said, ‘What happened to him (Phogat)? The incident she alleges happened when I was in Lucknow. Only time will tell the truth. Punia has been made the working president of the All India Kisan Congress. On the contrary, Sakshi Malik refused to join politics and said that he would continue the movement without joining any organization.
