With the message ‘Apna Time Aa Gaya’, Dharavi will witness the thrill of Dharavi Premier League (DPL) for the first time. Organised by the local youth of Dharavi and Dharavi Redevelopment Project Limited from 31st May to 2nd June, DPL will be held on Fridays at 5 pm and cricket matches will be played for 3 consecutive days.

Cricket can be seen being played everywhere on the streets of Dharavi, famous as Mini India. Holding on to this love for cricket, the local youth here have organized DPL on the lines of IPL and this competition will be held in 6 phases. The survey of the redevelopment project has started in Sector 1 of Dharavi which includes the areas of Matunga Labor Camp, Shahu Nagar, Saat Chaal, Valmiki Nagar, Kamala Raman Nagar and the first phase of DPL has been organized here. After this, the competition will be organized in five other phases soon.

In the first phase, more than 200 players from a total of 14 local cricket teams will participate. Interestingly, these matches of 10-10 overs will be played according to ICC’s T20 rules and third umpire and other updated systems have been prepared.

The final match of the series between these teams will be played on Sunday. The winning and runner-up teams will be awarded attractive trophies and cash prizes. These matches will be broadcasted live on social media and local cable and attractive gifts will also be given to the spectators who come to watch the matches.

DPL is full of entertainment

Since Dharavi Premier League is being organised on the lines of IPL, special care has been taken for entertainment along with sports. There will be a series of entertainment programmes including rappers and mimicry artists from Dharavi. Food stalls will also be set up here.

DPL is a tournament organized by Dharavikars for Dharavikars and we want to provide a platform for the local players. Also, the youth of Dharavi will give the message of development by supporting the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. Captain Adnan Syed said that we intend to organize more DPLs in Dharavi soon.
