According to the data of the National Anti Rabies Control Program, in April 2024, 12,333 people were bitten by dogs in Prayagraj alone. This time in the month of May, this figure has increased to more than 16 thousand. That is, more than five hundred people are being bitten by dogs every day in the city. Whereas in May so far, more than 9 thousand cases of heatstroke have been reported in government hospitals. Obviously, the heat is changing the behavior of dogs and making them angry.

Street dogs are more troubled in summer

Dr. Varun Kwatra explains that cortisol hormone increases rapidly in dogs during summer. It is a stress hormone. Due to its rapid increase, the dog starts behaving abnormally, due to which the dog becomes aggressive. He says that one thing has been observed that street dogs are more troubled in the heat than domestic dogs. Because the way a pet dog is taken care of, similarly a street dog has to suffer in the heat, due to which it becomes aggressive. Street dogs are the reason for 96 percent of dog bites in Prayagraj.

Nagar Nigam will start Operation Dog

To deal with the increasing incidents of dog bites, the Municipal Corporation Prayagraj is going to run Operation Dog. Animal Welfare Officer of Municipal Corporation Prayagraj, Vijay Amritraj, says that the number of stray dogs in the city has reached more than 10 thousand. The animal birth control system is also working, but their number is not decreasing yet. Now a plan is being worked on to run Operation Dog. Under this operation, a campaign will be run to sterilize the stray dogs of the city.
