There was a time when movies were watched for entertainment. But now people’s perception towards movies is changing. Today you will find many people who point out what is wrong with movies rather than entertainment? To find out, let’s go and see them in the theater. Because of social media, every right and wrong thing shown in movies is easily visible to the audience. Almost every film made on the country and especially related to the army creates a lot of buzz and controversy on social media. In the past few years, there have been many web series and movies based on the army, seeing that most of the movies have been accused by the viewers of misrepresenting the soldiers or their image of our country.

Be it Ekta Kapoor’s web series ‘XXX’ or the recently aired web series ‘IC 814’ on Netflix. Controversial scenes continue to be shown in OTT and theatres, the Defense Ministry of the Narendra Modi government has written to the Central Film Certification Board and the IB Ministry to seek permission from the Defense Ministry before telecasting any film, TV serial or web series on the Army or issues related to the Army. will be mandatory. This means that the production and broadcasting of films or web series based on the army will not be easy in the future.

Now permission has to be taken

It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Defense has written to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) informing that before making a film on the army, the producer will have to obtain an NOC certificate from them and the producer will also have to take special permission from the army officials. That means now the Ministry of Defense will take full care that soldiers and their uniforms are not shown wrongly on screen and those things are not included in films, due to which the morale of the soldiers may go down. Apart from this, as always, the makers have to take permission from the Ministry of Defense for shooting at flying bases, army schools and military related locations.

People protested these scenes

The web series was released on OTT platform Netflix last month i.e. on 29th August.IC814: Kandahar Hijack‘ featured the names of terrorists as Bhola and Shankar and this led to calls for a boycott of the series on social media. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had also sent a summons to Netflix in this regard. After this summons, Netflix held a meeting with the ministry and assured to play it with a disclaimer.

Even before this, the film ‘Fighter’, released in January 2024, was trolled on social media for showing a lip lock scene between Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone at an air force base.

Shahid Kapoor and Tabu’s film Haider, released 10 years ago, caused a lot of controversy because the Indian Army was shown in a negative role. Similarly, Ekta Kapoor’s web series XXX Uncensored 2 was also accused of defaming the army. In one of the scenes of this web series, the wife is shown not only tearing the army uniform while cheating on her army officer husband but also doing an objectionable scene with the uniform. Ekta Kapoor had to remove this scene after there was a lot of uproar and controversy after watching this scene.

Know what Siddharth Anand had to say

Now film makers have also started taking the protests of films on social media seriously. Siddharth Anand, who faced public ire for showing Deepika in an orange bikini during ‘Pathan’, told TV9 Hindi Digital during the promotions of ‘Fighter’ that every step was taken when he made the film ‘Fighter’. It was kept secret because it was a national matter. And when a filmmaker makes a film about his country’s army, it is his responsibility to present it properly to the audience.

He did the entire process from the story to the making of the film with the permission of the Air Force. Even after the film was completed, it was first shown to Air Force officials and then released in theatres. Siddharth said that I believe that even though it has become a challenge to make such films now, all this is very necessary because this is a matter of the country and honoring the country is the ultimate duty of every citizen.

Making films is a responsibility

According to film expert Narendra Gupta, this decision of the Ministry of Defense is completely justified as sensitive scenes related to patriotism shown in films affect the mindset of common people. In such a situation, if wrong scenes are shown in films or web series related to the country and the army, how much negative impact will it have on the citizens of the country. Therefore, it is very important that strict control is imposed on the producers. So that he cannot tarnish the name of our country through films at national and international level. Also, think 10 times before making a film on army and country. So that the image of the country does not have to be tarnished by his films or web series.
