A prisoner tried to escape from Jabalpur Jail

A shocking incident has come to light at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Central Jail in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where Ramesh Cole, a prisoner serving life sentence under the POCSO Act, escaped from the jail in a cinematic style. Ramesh Cole was lodged in the west wing of the Central Jail. He had been planning to escape for a long time. According to the jail administration, Ramesh Kaul went missing during the daily count of inmates, which created a commotion in the jail.

As soon as the news of the disappearance of an inmate from Barrack No. 9 came to light, the jail administration started immediate action. An intensive search operation was conducted in all sections of the jail. No trace of the prisoner was found. During the search, the jail administration feared that the prisoner might be hiding in the lake complex of the jail. Two Assistant Jail Superintendents and 8 guards conducted a search operation at around 2 am in the Azad Hind Khand Pond Garden spread over 7-8 acres. There was no sign of the prisoner either.

An FIR was lodged by the jail administration at the Civil Lines police station regarding the prisoner’s escape. A rigorous search of the lake complex was also conducted in the morning, which revealed that inmate Ramesh Kaul had been hiding near the lake for about 12 hours. The jail administration had also posted jail guards around the jail. After much struggle, the jail administration finally succeeded in arresting the prisoner Ramesh Kol in the morning.

Punishment under POCSO Act

The jail administration said that a case has been registered by the District Sessions Court under Sections 363, 366, 376 (1) and Section 5 (L) (H) 6 of the IPC in the rape case against the prisoner Ramesh Kol, a resident of Lalnagar Kaimore in Katni district. He was sentenced to 03 years, 05 years life imprisonment in case of POCSO Act 2012 in case registered at Kaimore Police Station and Rs. 500, Rs. 1000, Rs. 1000, Rs. 1000 fine was imposed. 03 months, 06 months, 01 year, 01 year additional rigorous imprisonment. Where the prisoner was brought from District Jail Katni to Central Jail on 22 March 2015 to serve life sentence. Where the prisoner was serving life sentence.

Two guards suspended

After this incident, the jail administration suspended two jail guards Vijay Gupta and Surendra Turkar on charges of dereliction of duty. While these two guards were on duty, the prisoner Ramesh Cole managed to escape. The incident exposes the shortcomings of the prison’s security system. This has forced the jail administration to rethink its security arrangements.

After the escape of the prisoner, there is an atmosphere of anxiety among the other inmates and security personnel of the prison. Deputy Jailor Madan Kamlesh says that currently the officers have been suspended for negligence. The jail administration is also investigating the matter. It is expected that concrete steps will be taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
