JK Assembly Elections: National Conference announces list of 32 candidates, Omar Abdullah to contest from Ganderbal

The National Conference has announced the list of 32 candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Former chief minister Omar Abdullah will be the party’s candidate from Ganderbal. There is an alliance between NC and Congress in this election. NC will contest on 50 seats and Congress on 32 seats. At the same time, there will be a friendly fight in 6 seats. That is, both the parties will field their candidates on these seats.

Ganderbal is considered a stronghold of the National Conference, as three generations of the Abdullah family have won from the seat. National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah won from here in 1977. His son Farooq Abdullah won from here in 1983, 1987 and 1996 and Omar Abdullah in 2008. In 2014, Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar won the seat from Ganderbal on a National Conference ticket. Earlier, he had lost from the same seat on a Congress ticket.

Congress contests elections together

The National Conference is contesting the elections together with the Congress in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections to be held after almost 5 years. Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi himself reached Srinagar to discuss seat sharing. In this election, NC is contesting on 50 seats and Congress on 32 seats. Today NC released its second list, this list has names of 32 candidates.
