Himachal Pradesh: Flood warning in Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur, traffic halted on 47 roads

Flood Alert in Himachal Pradesh: Due to continuous rain in Himachal Pradesh, traffic had to be stopped on 47 roads on Saturday. The local meteorological department has warned of flash floods in Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts. The State Emergency Operations Center said 18 electricity and one water supply scheme in the state were also affected.

According to the Meteorological Department, some parts of Himachal’s Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts have been warned of mild to moderate flood risk till Sunday. Himachal’s Malron recorded the highest rainfall of 64 mm. After this, Pandoh received 32.5 mm, Barthin 30.4 mm, Akhar 29.8 mm and Mandi 28.7 mm.

Traffic is closed on 9 roads each in Shimla and Kullu

According to the Meteorological Department, Manali received 12 mm, Kufri 11.6 mm and Sarahan 11 mm. Along with this, 28.4 mm of rain was recorded in Bhatiat, 26 mm in Jubbarhatti, 25.7 mm in Bhuntar, 18.6 mm in Sundernagar, 13.4 mm in Paonta Sahib, 13 mm in Dhaula Kuan.

The Emergency Operation Center of Himachal said that a total of 47 roads are blocked due to continuous rain. These include 13 roads in Mandi, 11 in Kangra, 9 each in Shimla and Kullu, two in Una and one each in Kinnaur, Sirmaur, Lahaul and Spiti districts. Apart from this, 18 electricity and one water supply schemes in the state have also been affected.

So far 157 people have died in rain incidents

After the arrival of monsoon on June 27, rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has reduced by 21 percent. During this period, the state received 517.8 mm rainfall against an average of 652.1 mm rainfall. A total of 157 people have died in rain-related incidents during the ongoing monsoon session from June 27 to September 6, officials said. With this, Himachal Pradesh has suffered a loss of Rs 1,303 crore.
