Despite all the bickering in Haryana, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress could not reach an agreement on seat sharing. That too when only 5 days are left to fill the nomination papers. Forms will be filled by September 12 for 90 seats in Haryana. In the absence of a coalition, a period of hostility and resentment has now begun between the two parties. On Saturday, AAP’s organizing general secretary Sandeep Pathak even said, “Don’t take us lightly.”

In such a scenario, let’s understand the complexities related to seat sharing between the two parties in Haryana and Jatland politics in these 5 scenarios…

1. Will there be an alliance between AAP and Congress in Haryana?

This is not final yet. There have been more than 3 rounds of talks between the two sides regarding the agreement. KC Venugopal and Deepak Babria from Congress and Sandeep Pathak and Raghav Chadha from AAP are in discussion.

AAP organization general secretary Sandeep Pathak has said that talks have not been decided yet so we cannot say anything. It is being said that both the parties will take a final decision on this in 1-2 days.

2. Where is the problem in AAP and Congress alliance?

Congress is the largest party in Haryana and has to give up the seat to AAP. AAP has contested Lok Sabha elections in 2024 along with Congress. At that time he got 1 out of 10 seats. AAP says it has 10 assembly seats under the seat it got, so it should be given at least 10 seats to contest.

Congress is ready to give him only 4 seats. The party says that it got a lead in only 4 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, so it will be given only 4 seats. It is being said that there is a difference between the two parties as to which seats will be allotted to them.

Many of the seats that AAP is vying for are strongholds of Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala. If these seats are given to AAP, Surjewala’s resentment may increase.

3. Is there any other reason for non-coalition?

According to Congress sources, three big party leaders in Haryana are not in favor of the alliance. Bhupinder Hooda, Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala are prominent in it. Hooda and Shailja have publicly advocated fighting alone. All the three leaders are regional constituencies of the Congress.

These leaders argue that AAP does not have support in Haryana. However, the party is demanding more seats.

4. Does Aam Aadmi Party have support in Haryana?

AAP organization general secretary Sandeep Pathak has given a message to the Congress saying that we should not be taken lightly. In such a situation, the question is how strong is AAP in Haryana?

In fact, after winning the Delhi elections in 2020, AAP launched a campaign to attain national status. AAP won in Punjab under this campaign, while it caused an upset in Gujarat.

AAP is not very strong in Haryana right now, but it has a good base. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, he got around 5 lakh 76 thousand votes in Haryana. He got lead in 4 assembly seats.

5. What happens if there is no connection between the two?

Considering the way both the parties are flying kites in their favor regarding the alliance, it is being said that there will be no alliance between the two. In such a situation you can contest elections alone. It is being said that if Congress contests elections alone, the party can field candidates on 50 seats.

Congress can contest elections with CPI and CPM as well as SP and NCP. The party may give seats to these parties on token basis.
