Delhi will get additional water from Himachal, Supreme Court directed

The Delhi government’s plea seeking additional water due to the growing drinking water crisis in Delhi was heard in the Supreme Court on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Delhi government has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has directed Delhi to provide additional water. A vacation bench of Justice Prashant Mishra and Justice KV Viswanathan is hearing the matter.

The Supreme Court has directed the Himachal Pradesh government to release 137 cusecs of water. It has also been said that Haryana will facilitate the release of water to Delhi. Himachal government will release water on Friday. The Supreme Court said it has ordered Himachal Pradesh to release 137 cusecs of water to Himachal tomorrow. Care should be taken not to waste water in any way in Delhi.

The court said that the Haryana government should allow the water it is getting from Himachal to reach Delhi’s Wazirabad without any restriction, so that the people of Delhi can get drinking water. The Supreme Court has also asked the Haryana government to cooperate in reaching Delhi through the canal falling in its area. The next hearing of this case will be held on Monday. The court has asked all the parties to file a status report.
