Raju Bisht, BJP MP from Darjeeling Lok Sabha has won the Lok Sabha Election 2024 for the second time. Raju Bisht defeated Trinamool Congress candidate Gopal Lama by 178525 votes. Raju Bisht got 679331 votes, while Gopal Lama got 500806 votes. BJP has won this seat for the fourth time. Before this, Raju Bisht was elected from Darjeeling for the first time in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Raju Bisht got 750,067 votes with 59.19 votes. While TMC’s Amar Singh Rai got 3,36,624 votes with 26.56 percent votes. After becoming an MP in 2019, his stature in West Bengal politics rose significantly and he was made the party spokesperson at the national level. On 14 July 2021, he has been appointed as the National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

Raju Bisht was born on 3 January 1986 in the Gorkha family of Vishnu and Prabha Bisht in Charhajara, Senapati District, Manipur. He is a Bachelor of Arts and did his education from Presidency College, Motabung, which is affiliated to Manipur University. Raju Bishta married Anita Bista on 6 October 2006. He has two daughters. He is a businessman by profession and is also involved in social work.

RSS volunteer since childhood

From humble beginnings as the son of a village school teacher in Manipur, he has made his way into politics and business. Raju Bisht is also the Managing Director of Surya Roshni Limited and owns the Surya Foundation, which is involved in social work. Raju Bisht, a disciplined RSS worker since childhood, is known for his organizational skills and spearheading various social projects. He also organized village level cricket and football tournaments during his schooling.

Bisht is associated with many social organizations

Raju Bisht is also associated with many social organizations. While working for social organizations, he has done a lot of work in the North-Eastern region especially in Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Darjeeling. Extensively traveled the North Eastern region to understand local issues and formulate long-term plans for sustainable development at the grassroots level. Later, he led various social initiatives across India including Yuva Vikas Shibir, School Bharati Sanstha, International Institute of Naturopathy.

Raju Bisht has many assets

33 year old Raju Bisht’s father’s name is Vishnu Bisht. He is a voter of Serial No. 154, Part No. 54 in Madipur 26 NCT Delhi (West Bengal) Constituency. His wife is also involved in business. His total assets are Rs 15 crore, while his liabilities are Rs 2 crore. According to the affidavit filed with the Election Commission, no criminal case has been registered against him nor has he been convicted in any case.
