Assembly elections are going to be held in Maharashtra this year, for which all the political parties have started preparations. Meanwhile, the ban on All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Imtiaz Jalil has come to light. He says that the party has sent an alliance proposal to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), if there is no response to the proposal by September 9, AIMIM will contest the elections on its own in the state.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, AIMIM leader Jalil said that his party wants to contest in some seats where it has a strong base and its candidates can register victory. He said that AIMIM does not want the BJP-led ruling coalition Mahayuti to form the government in Maharashtra. He said Eknath’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are the other components of this alliance.

‘Ready to tie up with MVA in public interest’

Jalil further said that though Shiv Sena (UBT) and AIMIM have different ideologies, they are ready to tie up with MVA in the interest of political needs and farmers and people of the state. Jalil said AIMIM has held talks with leaders of MVA-Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s party. He said that his party wants to contest in seats where it has a good grip.

The AIMIM leader said that he has been waiting for a long time. If Mahavikas Aghadi does not respond by September 9, AIMIM will start distributing forms to its interested candidates. Jalil said that the alliance with MVA would not benefit his party much, but if it does not take AIMIM along, the opposition alliance could suffer a lot. Along with this he also said that it looks like MVA only needs 3 chairs on stage. Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray and Nana Patole (State Congress President). MVA does not want AIMIM to be a fourth party on the platform.
