The Supreme Court rejected Sandeep Ghosh’s plea.
The Supreme Court today heard a petition filed by former principal Sandeep Ghosh, who was arrested on corruption charges in the RG Kar Medical College case in Kolkata. The court has rejected the application of Sandeep Ghosh. The court said that you are an accused and it is not your place to interfere in a matter of public interest. On this, Sandeep Ghosh’s lawyer said that the court should look into the allegations, but also hear my arguments. Because earlier two petitions of Sandeep Ghosh were rejected in the High Court on the same basis.
Linked to rape and murder
Sandeep Ghosh’s counsel said that the petitioner (Sandeep Ghosh) who had filed the petition was the former in-charge of the hospital and was posted somewhere after investigation. The High Court has dismissed two similar PIL petitions on that basis. I am deeply saddened by the comments made in paragraph 15. Sandeep Ghosh is accused of financial irregularities, but the CBI is linking him to the RG Kar College rape and murder case. On that, the CJI said that we assure you that the CBI investigation will be impartial.
Request comment removal
Sandeep Ghosh’s lawyer sought removal of the High Court’s comment, to which the CJI said, “We will not do anything.” The High Court has not commented on corruption or crime. The CJI said that these matters cannot be decided on technical grounds.
To that the lawyer said that the plea is clearly motivated by a certain background so such pleas should be looked at carefully. On that CJI said that yes, the court has to be careful. The issue of biomedical waste is a trigger and that is why the High Court wants the matter to reach a conclusion.
No interference with investigation
During the hearing, Sandeep’s counsel said that disposal of biomedical waste was a separate issue, to which the CJI said that it could not be a separate issue. We feel that the investigation should not be interrupted and have asked the CBI to file a status report, keeping this in mind we will ensure that an impartial investigation takes place.
