Will ‘Foxconn City’ now be built in India too? These states are lagging behind

Foxconn, a contract iPhone manufacturing company, is one of the largest companies in the world. This Taiwanese company, which manufactures Foxconn iPhones for Apple in India, has created Foxconn City or iPhone City in its home country and in China. The company now wants to build a similar city in India as well. Many states are offering land to the company to build an iPhone city in India similar to China. Let us know what the deal is…

In the three southern states, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, there is a race to give land to Taiwanese company Foxconn. The Telangana government has offered 2,000 acres of land to the company. According to sources, at least two more states have also offered land to Foxconn. Andhra Pradesh has offered 2,500 acres of land to the company and Karnataka has offered 300 acres of land to build an industrial park. However, it is not yet clear where the state governments have offered the land to the company.

These states are interested in Foxconn City

The Economic Times report quoted Telangana’s Industry and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu as saying that the state’s Chief Minister had recently met the chairman of Foxconn. He showed keen interest in setting up Foxconn City. In response to this, our government has offered around 2,000 acres of land. As per the proposal, the company will develop the land as per its requirement. The company may also give some of the land to its suppliers. This may include companies from Taiwan, China or America.

According to Sridhar Babu, Foxconn has indicated that one of its teams will visit Telangana this week to assess the land. On August 17, at the inauguration of the company’s industrial housing facility at Sriperumbudur near Chennai in Tamil Nadu, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said that his company is looking at building an industrial township near Chennai. Now, other southern states are also demanding a similar initiative from the Taiwanese major. Babu said that we have encouraged Foxconn to explore options in Tier 2 and 3 cities as well.

What is China’s iPhone City like?

If the company decides to select a land in a Tier 2 city near Hyderabad, the Telangana government will be able to complete the process easily. However, Foxconn did not respond to queries asked in this regard. According to sources, talks are on between other southern states and Foxconn. He said that Karnataka is offering around 300 acres of land to Foxconn to build a supplier park. It is yet to be finalised. But talks are on with the company to build this facility. This was also discussed during President Liu’s visit to India.

The municipality will be built along the lines of iPhone City.

Southern states are demanding different “models” from Foxconn. In Tamil Nadu, Liu clarified that the company plans to build a township or industrial park where manufacturing facilities and housing for workers will be in the same complex. Currently, the company’s facilities are located in Sriperumbudur, where it manufactures iPhones. Liu indicated that the company will go beyond smartphone assembly in India and will manufacture products for sectors such as ICT, electric vehicles and batteries. The company has a unit in the city of Sri, Andhra Pradesh. In addition, the company is also building a facility in Karnataka where mainly iPhones will be manufactured.
