The BJP will not formally announce an alliance with Gopal Kanda’s Haryana Lokhit Party in the Haryana assembly elections, but may informally vacate a seat for Gopal Kanda by mutual consent. BJP has so far announced the names of 87 candidates for the 90 assembly seats in Haryana. The 3 constituencies where names of candidates have not been announced include Faridabad NIT, Mahendragarh and Sirsa assembly seat. Gopal Kanda is the sitting MLA from Sirsa seat.

In the 2019 assembly elections, BJP won 40 seats and Dushyant Chautala’s JJP won 10 seats. The BJP formed an alliance with the JJP to form a stable government and made Dushyant Chautala the Deputy Chief Minister. Gopal Kanda then unconditionally supported the coalition government of BJP and JJP for five years.

Last date for nomination tomorrow in Haryana

Gopal Kanda wanted BJP to leave two seats namely Sirsa and Rania for him in this assembly election, but Gopal Kanda announced Dhaval Kanda as his candidate for Rania seat, later BJP fielded Sheeshpal Kamboj. The big problem facing BJP is that on one hand Ranjit Chautala has also announced to contest from Rania seat as an independent candidate and on the other hand Dhaval Kanda is already in the fray from Gopal Kanda’s party, which can benefit Congress.

Will Dhawal Kanda’s nomination be withdrawn?

Sources believe that the BJP has given a message to Gopal Kanda that he will not field a candidate against him on the Sirsa seat, but will have to withdraw the nomination of Haryana Lokhit Party candidate Dhaval Kanda from the Rania assembly seat. Tomorrow is the last date to file nomination papers for Haryana assembly elections.

INLD president Abhay Chautala resigned as MLA from Allenabad assembly seat due to farmers’ agitation. BJP gave ticket to Gopal Kanda’s brother Govind Kanda against Abhay Chautala in the Elanabad seat by-election. He also went to jail in the air hostess Geetika suicide case, but after 11 years he was acquitted by the court in the Geetika suicide case.
