An example of Hindu-Muslim unity can be found in Mohammadia Haripur village of Hasanpur block in Katihar district. Here the entire village is fulfilling the promise made by the ancestors 100 years ago. 100 years ago the forefathers of the village had promised that during Moharram the people of the entire village would celebrate the festival of Moharram with full rituals. Today the entire village of Mohammadia Haripur is keeping this promise. A large number of villagers are celebrating Moharram festival with full customs.

There is also a popular story about this. It is said that the land of this village belonged to lawyer Mian. His sons died of illness. He was leaving the land of the village, but before that he gave his land to the Chedi Shah of the same village and took a promise from him that the people of this village would celebrate Muharram with full custom. From then till now the people of the village celebrate the festival of Muharram every year with full custom. The special thing about the whole story is that there is not a single Muslim family within a radius of five kilometers of this village.

Former Mandal head Manoj Kumar says this Moharram is very special as it sets an example of harmony and unity. While on the one hand the villagers are fulfilling the promises made by their ancestors, on the other hand they are also learning to respect the traditions of other religions.
