Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati
The sourness between Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh politics is not ending. BSP chief and former chief minister Mayawati has revealed in a booklet released on Thursday that Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav stopped picking up her phone after getting less seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The party has released ‘Bahujan Samaj Party Booklet’ which is being distributed among party workers. In the booklet, former Chief Minister Mayawati has revealed the breakup of BSP’s alliance with the Samajwadi Party.
Akhilesh’s behavior happened because: BSP
The pamphlet says, “To keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power at the Centre, SP and BSP decided to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections together. But when the election results came in with BSP getting 10 seats and Samajwadi Party 5, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav stopped taking calls from BSP chief Mayawati and several other senior party leaders. Akhilesh’s behavior has hurt BSP. Therefore, the party had to decide to separate from the SP while maintaining its self-respect.
What did Akhilesh say on BSP’s claim?
The 59-page booklet issued by the party is being distributed to party officials and workers in view of the upcoming by-elections and other upcoming elections. At an event held in Lucknow on Thursday, when reporters asked Akhilesh Yadav about the revelations made in the BSP booklet, he said, “I was present at a meeting held in Azamgarh when the SP-BSP alliance broke up during the stage. SP-BSP workers and many leaders were present there. “Then no one knew the alliance was about to break.”
Akhilesh Yadav on the alliance break claim said, “I myself dialed the phone and asked why this alliance is being broken, because if the press asks me after the public meeting, what will I answer them? Sometimes such things are said to hide one’s thoughts.”
BSP state president Vishwanath Pal told news agency PTI, “The party has printed a 59-page booklet. This booklet written by Mayawati is being distributed among activists. The aim behind it is to provide information about the party’s stance and policies to party supporters and workers at the grassroots level.” He also said that Mayawati’s aim through the pamphlet was to spread the votes of her cadre to the Dalits and OBCs, adding that other parties used various tactics to get their votes. BSP is their true well-wisher.
The booklet was first distributed among the workers during the BSP national executive meeting held in Lucknow on August 27 last month. By-elections for 10 Assembly seats are to be held in UP, ahead of which the booklet has been circulated.
