If not for Aamir Khan, these actors would have created a riot

The 2016 film ‘Dangal’ directed by famous Bollywood director Nitesh Tiwari was the highest grossing film of the year. Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist played the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, the father of the Phogat sisters in Aamir Khan’s film. After seeing Aamir Khan in ‘Dangal’, it is very difficult to see any other actor in the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat. But the creative producers of UTV Motion Pictures had different intentions.

‘Dangal’ is one of the best roles in Aamir’s illustrious career and he did a fantastic job of gaining and losing a lot of weight for the film in a very short period of time. But do you know who would have played the role of Mahavir Phogat if Aamir Khan had turned down the Dangal offer? Actually, the makers had already prepared a plan for this. He had the names of two big stars whom he would approach. But Aamir agreed and the matter did not proceed further.

If not for Aamir, these actors would have created a ruckus

According to the creative producer of UTV Motion Pictures, if Aamir had rejected the film, the makers would have cast Kamal Haasan or Mohanlal in the film. UTV Motion Pictures creative producer Divya Rao said in an interview that Aamir Khan was her first choice when she decided to make a film on the Phogat sisters. However, if Aamir had not agreed to do the film, only veteran actors like Mohanlal or Kamal Haasan would have been cast in the film. Interestingly, Mohanlal was also the Kerala State Wrestling Champion in 1977-78.

This is how the idea of making ‘Dangal’ came

Divya Rao was the first to think of making a film on Phogat, as she read an interesting article in which a father turned his cowshed into a wrestling ground to teach his daughters to wrestle. The production house immediately gave the green light to his ideas for the film and the title of the film ‘Dangal’ was also liked by the production house.

After the script of the film was ready, the director went straight to Aamir Khan and after that Aamir Khan gave his yes for the film. Then the film never reached Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal.

The makers spent just Rs 70 crore to make ‘Dangal’ which released on 23 December 2016, while the film grossed over Rs 2000 crore. Apart from Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Zaira Wasim, Sanya Malhotra and Aparshakti Khurana were also seen in the film.
