As the state secretary of CPI(M) Bengal, he has strengthened the party organization. In such a situation, a section of the CPI(M) wants Mohammad Salim to take over the command of the party.

At the same time, leaders close to Mohammad Salim say he is not in favor of moving to Delhi now, as he has taken steps to strengthen the party organization in Bengal. Priority has been given to the youth and new responsibilities have been assigned to them. In such a situation, if he goes to Delhi, the party organization in Bengal may suffer.
