Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and MLA Mata Prasad Pandey
The Samajwadi Party has made Mata Prasad Pandey the Leader of the Opposition. Akhilesh Yadav has taken this decision after the meeting of Samajwadi Party MLAs held in Lucknow today i.e. Sunday. Mata Prasad Pandey was considered close to Mulayam Singh Yadav. Pandey is SP MLA from Itwa in Siddharthnagar. Before this, he has also been the Speaker of the UP Legislative Assembly. He is a seven-time MLA.
Before the announcement of the name of Mata Prasad Pandey, the names of Shivpal Yadav, Indrajit Sehroj and Tufani Saroj were discussed. Akhilesh Yadav, sporting a Brahmin, elected Mata Prasad Pandey as the MLA leader after a meeting with MLAs in Lucknow that lasted for nearly 3 hours.
