Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal has canceled the membership of Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Tanwar. The action has been taken under the Anti-Defection Act. On Tuesday, the Delhi Assembly Secretariat issued a notice and gave this information. Kartar Tanwar won the 2020 assembly elections from Chhatarpur in Delhi on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket, but later switched parties and joined the BJP. Along with Tanwar, former Delhi minister Raj Kumar Anand has also quit AAP. His membership has already been cancelled. The notice issued regarding Tanwar’s membership said that his membership is canceled with effect from July 10.
Who is Kartar Singh Tanwar?
Before joining politics, Kartar Singh Tanwar was a junior engineer in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Tanwar started his politics in 2007, before AAP he was in BJP. He has also been a councilor of the Delhi Municipal Corporation. He came into the limelight during protests against the Delhi government’s policy of mass transfer of teachers. Joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2014 and won the 2015 assembly elections from Chhatarpur on the party’s election symbol. After which he won again in 2020 election. He left AAP and returned to BJP in July this year.
Owner of multi-crore assets
According to the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Tanwar has declared his net worth at Rs 17.64 crore. In which Rs. 7.69 crore immovable property and Rs. 9.95 crores including movable property. But when the Income Tax department raided his residence in 2016, it was discovered that he had benami assets worth Rs 130 crore. More than 100 officials of the Income Tax Department raided dozens of places in Tanwar. He was also found to have 20 companies during income tax raids. Jewelery and cash worth crores were also recovered from his house in the raid.
