The parties of Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav are at loggerheads over the alliance.
A controversy has started in Bihar politics over the claim of alliance between Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav’s party. The JDU says that the RJD has approached it for an alliance each time, while the RJD’s claim is quite the opposite. In Bihar, there was an alliance between RJD and JDU in 2015 and 2022. JDU is the party of Nitish Kumar and RJD is the party of Lalu Yadav.
How did the dispute between JDU and RJD start?
Recently, Nitish Kumar’s return was discussed in Bihar. It was being said that Nitish is angry with the BJP on several issues simultaneously. BJP president JP Nadda came to Bihar to prevent Nitish’s anger from escalating further.
After the conversation between the two leaders, Nitish Kumar announced not to go anywhere from the stage. In the same advertisement, Nitish Kumar said that I have done welfare for RJD twice. Now I will not do his welfare.
After this statement of Nitish Kumar, RJD has also come to the front. RJD CM face Tejashwi Yadav hit back at Nitish’s statement and said that you are the one who came for the alliance. If he comes now, I will not take him with me.
Who went to whom for connection, 2 stories
1. First story of 2015 alliance- In 2013, the Bharatiya Janata Party decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections against the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi. In protest, Nitish walked out of the National Democratic Alliance. Nitish said that the BJP did not follow the coalition religion before revealing its face.
The JDU had a majority in the Bihar government, so the exit of the BJP did not matter. In the 2014 elections, BJP contested the elections along with LJP and RLSP. RJD was with Congress and NCP while JDU was alone.
The NDA won 31 out of 40 seats in Bihar due to a triangular contest. The BJP-led NDA won with a huge majority across the country and Narendra Modi was elected as Prime Minister.
Lalu Yadav said in an interview – BJP got such a big victory because of the division of votes between Nitish and me in Bihar. After this we decided that we will fight together. I called Nitish Kumar and asked for an alliance.
It is said that after this phone call Nitish Kumar on behalf of JDU asked the then Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi to resign. After defeat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Nitish Manjhi was made Chief Minister. However, his relinquishment caused a political upheaval in Bihar.
In June 2015, Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav had a formal meeting at SP president Mulayam Singh’s residence in Delhi. An alliance was announced at this meeting, which was named the Grand Alliance. Nitish and Lalu later included Congress in this too.
2. Now the story of coalition formation in 2022- In 2015, the relationship between Nitish and Lalu broke up in 2017. Nitish rejoined NDA, but lost interest in NDA after 5 years. Nitish came with Lalu in 2022. However, this time it was Nitish Kumar who initiated the alliance instead of Lalu.
Nitish first criticized senior party leader and Union Minister RCP Singh for severing ties with the BJP. JDU replaces RCP Singh with Khiru Mahato from Jharkhand in Rajya Sabha. RCP was upset with this decision of JDU and decided to leave the party.
While talking to reporters after leaving Janata Dal United in August 2022, the RCP said – it wants to go back to the old place. I am not in favor of this so I have decided to leave the party. JDU is a sinking ship.
Just a few days after this statement of RCP, JDU has separated from BJP. After resigning as chief minister at the Raj Bhavan, Nitish went straight to Rabri’s house in Patna, where Tejashwi and Rabri welcomed him. After meeting Lalu and other leaders of the Grand Alliance, Nitish claimed to form the government.
After forming the government, the JDU held a press conference and blamed the 2020 results for the coalition breakup. JDU said that BJP wanted to destroy JDU with the help of Chirag Paswan and RCP Singh, so Nitish Kumar decided to quit BJP.
