The strike of junior doctors continues

The strike of junior doctors at RG Kar Medical and Hospital in Kolkata is going on. Yesterday i.e. 18th September a meeting was held between junior doctors and Chief Secretary Manoj Pant at State Secretariat Nabanna. After the meeting, the doctors alleged that the Chief Secretary agreed on all the issues, but there was no mention of many of their demands when the delivery of the meeting was sought. When asked about this, the Chief Secretary said that you should mail us.

The doctors said that they will continue the agitation till their demands are met. A doctor who came out of the meeting told the reporters that we had come to talk to the secretary sir. During the meeting he agreed to all our demands, but many things were not included in the distribution. We wrote in our demands for everyone, nurses, health workers and patients, that arrangements should be made to ensure that patients are not inconvenienced. But they did not heed our demands. Even on our main demand, threat culture they refused to write anything and said we have to mail. What was the point of coming to the meeting if you had to mail? The meeting did not get what was supposed to be in writing. Maybe he didn’t put it in writing because he had to answer it himself. Therefore, we have not signed its minutes. We have come with our demands. It has said it will issue guidelines. We will continue our protest until the guidelines are issued. We are disappointed not to receive written confirmation.

The government has accepted several demands

Earlier, many steps have been taken by Mamata Banerjee’s government on the demand of doctors in the Kolkata rape case. Top medical officials, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner, have been transferred. After meeting the doctors, Mamata Banerjee said that we have decided to change the CP considering the demand of junior doctors. He demanded the removal of 3 officials from the health department, out of which we agreed to remove 2 officials. We have accepted 99 percent of their demands.
