The Chennai Test match against Bangladesh proved not only good for Team India, but also good for Rishabh Pant personally. Team India’s star wicketkeeper-batsman returned to the format after more than a year and a half and contributed to the team’s victory by scoring a brilliant century. Pant not only impressed the audience with his batting but also entertained the fans with his old fashioned witticisms and antics. Something similar happened when he was batting and suddenly he started fielding from Bangladesh, which surprised everyone. Now Pant said that one of the reasons for this was a special mantra he got from former Indian all-rounder Ajay Jadeja, which made him start doing this.

Pant started fielding for Bangladesh

On the third day of the Chennai Test, when the Indian team was batting in its second innings, only Rishabh Pant was at the crease. Shubman Gill was standing with him on the other side. When Pant completed his half-century in the first session, he suddenly found himself setting up the fielding. Before Bangladeshi fast bowler Taskin Ahmed’s over started, Pant, who was on strike, started telling the Bangladeshi captain that the fielder should be placed at midwicket. Pant’s advice also worked and soon a fielder moved away from the covers to midwicket. Pant’s voice was recorded on a stump mic and the video of the entire incident also became a hit on social media.

It did so because of Ajay Jadeja

After Team India’s win on Sunday, September 22, when Pant was speaking to the commentary panel of official broadcaster Jio Cinemas, former wicketkeeper Saba Karim asked him about the incident and why he did it. In response to this, Pant said that the reason for this was a special mantra he received from Ajay Jadeja, who was present in the studio at that time. Pant said that even off the field, he used to talk to Ajay Jadeja that cricket should always be good, no matter where he plays, whether it is his own cricket or that of the opposition team. Pant said that two fielders were deployed at one place, while the other side (at midwicket) was completely empty, so he asked for one fielder to be deployed there.

Pant got emotional over the century

Talking about his century, Pant called it a very emotional moment. Pant said that he was looking forward to returning to Test cricket and was feeling very nervous before the start of this match as he was returning to the format after almost 2 years. Despite this, he handled the innings under difficult circumstances and scored a brilliant century. In this innings, Pant scored 109 runs off just 128 balls, in which he hit 4 sixes and 13 fours. During this time, he shared a 167-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Shubman Gill, which pulled Team India out of a difficult situation and put them in a match-winning position.
