West Bengal: ‘Bengal government should produce documents related to arrest in March,’ Calcutta High Court directs.

Nabanna March: The Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the West Bengal government to produce documents related to the arrest of people in connection with the ‘Nabanna’ march. A protest march was taken out to the Secretariat on August 27 against the RG Kar Hospital doctor rape and murder case. At the same time, the court has asked the Mamata Banerjee government to produce all the documents related to the arrest of four people during this period.

A bench of Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj of the Kolkata High Court heard the arrest case of the four. Meanwhile, the court questioned the propriety of his arrest and release after 24 hours. The court asked whether the police followed proper procedures in his detention. In response, the West Bengal government said the police had arrested him as a precautionary measure.

Notice to produce arrest related documents by tomorrow

A lawyer appearing for the West Bengal government told the court that the Howrah city police had arrested him as a precautionary measure. Because the police feared that these people might cause serious disturbance during the protest march till ‘Nabanna’ under the banner of Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj. At the same time, Justice Bharadwaj asked what kind of disturbance was feared. And why were these people released before the August 27 protest march?

The court has ordered the state government to submit all the documents related to the arrest by Tuesday. At the same time, counsel for the petitioners Rajdeep Majumdar alleged that the arrest was illegal. He said he is seeking compensation from the court and an order to prosecute those responsible for keeping the four people in custody.

The incident of rape and murder of the female doctor took place on August 9.

On August 9, the dead body of a 31-year-old post-graduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of West Bengal’s RG Kar Hospital. According to the postmortem report, the woman doctor was raped and then murdered. After this shameful incident, there is anger among the people of the state as well as the entire country. Students organizations including doctors are protesting in West Bengal. And the woman doctor in the case hopes for proper justice.
