Divorce victim circles justice in Aligarh

A shocking case of triple talaq has once again come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh. This time a young man divorced his wife because she voted for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. The victim said that her husband divorced her and threw her out of the house as soon as she returned from the polling booth. Since then she has been fighting from house to house for justice. According to the police, a case has been registered against the accused husband based on the complaint of the victim woman and investigation has been started.

According to police, Asiya, the victim of Armaan Khan, a resident of Sanpahar Adalpur Police Station Chhara, was married to Seva Mian, son of Khurshid Khan, a resident of Barauli on 7 April 2021. In the complaint given to the police, she has stated that at the time of marriage, her father gave a dowry of around 8 lakh 50 thousand rupees. Some time ago, her husband Seva Mian had contested as a Zilla Panchayat member under the Samajwadi Party banner. He was defeated in this election.

After this they started quarreling in the house. Sometimes they started beating her for dowry and sometimes for some other reason. The husband also pressured her several times to bring money from her parents’ house. He was forced to bring it from his parents’ house and gave around 2.5 lakh rupees. Asia said that in the meantime, when she was returning home with her mother after voting in the Lok Sabha elections on 26 April 2024, she met her younger brothers Shabu and Sadan along with Sevan Mian on the way.

He asked who had voted. Sevan Mian started beating him and started abusing him as soon as he mentioned BJP’s name. After this, he said ‘talaq-talaq’ thrice and threatened not to come home again. Asia’s mother Sakina told the police that her in-laws had cheated her daughter in marriage. Even at the time of marriage they gave as much dowry as they could, yet the demands of their in-laws did not diminish.

Voted against triple talaq

Asia said that BJP has abolished the practice of triple talaq. This custom was unfortunate for women. He has voted for BJP to end this. She said that when her husband divorced her in the middle of the road, she immediately reached the police station and filed a police complaint, but the police have so far dismissed the matter. However, now Deputy SP Ravi Shankar Prasad said that a case is being registered based on the victim’s complaint. He said that the victim is making many allegations against her in-laws. Those allegations are being investigated.
