Vadhavan Port to provide 12 lakh jobs, Union Minister says

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday said that after the commissioning of the proposed Wadhawan port in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, 12 lakh jobs will be created for local youth and women and many facilities will also be created for the people of the area. Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the port project at the CIDCO grounds in Palghar, Sonowal said that India has earned a name as a maritime nation in the world under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has taken several initiatives for the maritime sector in the last 10 years.

The budget is Rs 76 billion.

This new off-road project, 150 kilometres from Mumbai, received the approval of the Union Cabinet in June this year. It will involve an investment of Rs 76,200 crore, which includes development of core infrastructure, terminals and other commercial infrastructure on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The first phase of the port project is expected to be completed by 2029. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sonowal said that this port project is a great gift from the Prime Minister to the people of Maharashtra and the country.

Sonowal said that this project will provide employment to local youth and women, it will also benefit the fishing community and provide opportunities to the coming generations. He said that this upcoming facility will also play an important role in fulfilling the mission of making India a self-reliant nation in the next 25 years. Let us tell you that after the construction of this port, it will be one of the 10 largest ports in the world. This port will be of great benefit not only to Maharashtra but also to the economy of the country. On the other hand, this port will not be affected by any weather.

The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 218 fisheries projects worth Rs 1,560 crore in Palghar during his visit to the state.
