Objective of this project

Vadhavan Port is being constructed near Dahanu town in Palghar district of Maharashtra. The main objective of constructing this port is to establish a world-class maritime gateway. After the construction of this port, the country will see a surge in business and economic growth. The special thing is that Vadhavan Port will be the 13th port in the country. While the first one will be an offshore port. Its most important feature will be that no effect of weather will be seen in this port. This port will always be open to suit all weather conditions. On the other hand, Vadhavan Port will be one of the largest ports located in deep waters. The draft of this port will be more than 80 meters, so movement of large containers will be possible with ease.

Maritime connectivity will increase

After the construction of this port, the maritime connectivity of the country will increase. The special thing is that there will be connectivity to international sea routes from this port. Due to which there will be a reduction in both transit time and cost. Advanced technology and infrastructure will be seen in this port. This will include deep berths, efficient cargo handling facilities, and an advanced port management system. Once the port is ready, it will be one of the top 10 container ports in the world. The construction of Vadhan Port will be completed in two phases. The construction of the first phase will be completed by 2029 and the second phase is expected to take till 2039 to complete.

Who is building this port?

Vadhavan Port is being developed by an organisation formed by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and Maharashtra Maritime Board. The name of this organisation has been retained as Vadhavan Port Project Limited. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority holds 74 per cent stake in Vadhavan Port Project Limited and Maharashtra Maritime Board holds 26 per cent stake. This port is being prepared as a PPP project. The capacity of this port will be 15 million TEU.
