Not only Indians, but now even the World Bank has faith in India’s progress. World Bank Vice President (South Asia Region) Martin Rager has said that Uttar Pradesh can play an important role in India’s ‘Mission 2047’ taking forward. Under ‘Mission 2047’, a target has been set to make the country a developed nation by the time it completes 100 years of independence. Razor discussed with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Principal Secretary Manoj Singh how the World Bank can help Uttar Pradesh turn it into a $1 trillion economy.

Why did the World Bank say this?

He said that we are entering into a new strategic (borrowing) cycle for India and that such strategic cycles usually last for four to five years. He said that based on the issues discussed with the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh in the last two days, the World Bank can come up with a loan or monetary assistance of one billion dollars or more in the next two to three years.

UP will become a kingmaker

He said Uttar Pradesh can play the role of kingmaker in India’s Mission 2047. On the question of Uttar Pradesh becoming a trillion-dollar economy, Razor said I think it is entirely practical. But to take it forward, reforms are needed. This applies not only to Uttar Pradesh but to the whole of India. He said the World Bank is drawing up a blueprint for Uttar Pradesh to modernise its agriculture, increase crop production and reduce excessive use of fertilisers along with more efficient use of water. This will help farmers shift from traditional cash crops to more value-added products.
